Columbus Day - Part of Italian Culture and Heritage Month
Acting Governor of New Jersey Richard J. Codey has declared the month of October as "Italian Heritage and Culture Month." This now annual proclamation, initiated in 2002 has been made possible by the efforts of the founding sponsor Ralph A. Contini, Chairman of UNICO National's Columbus Day Committee. Several organizations were instrumental in sponsoring this proclamation including UNICO National, The New Jersey Italian and Italian-American Heritage Commission, The Coccia Institute and The Tri-State Italian-American Congress.
Columbus weekend festivities will be used to launch a month long national celebration of Italian Heritage and Culture events.
